Meet Nancy goodrich Mitts, Phd

You don’t have to feel overwhelmed forever.

Dr. Nancy Goodrich Mitts smiling at the camera, wearing a light green tank top, a brown cardigan, a floral skirt, and a brown woven belt, standing outdoors in front of a brick wall with a plant in the background.

You deserve to be supported without feeling like a burden.

You’re in the right place.

Let’s figure things out together.

My name is Dr. Nancy Goodrich Mitts (she/her) and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Illinois. I am currently located in the Champaign-Urbana area and can see individuals from anywhere in Illinois for online individual therapy appointments.

I integrate feminist, acceptance, experiential, and compassion-focused approaches to best fit each individual client. I work well with professionals in their 20s-30s, and undergraduates, and graduate/professional students. I am particularly passionate about empowering trauma survivors, queer folks, chronically ill people, and women as they navigate a world in which they are often marginalized and misunderstood.

My style

My work is trauma-informed, relational, and incorporates elements of mindfulness and parts work.

I bring a calm presence to my sessions and will always be respectful and real with you. You'll gain insight into unhelpful patterns that get in the way of you living a meaningful life. I’ll help you connect with painful past experiences and figure out how to make some new changes. You'll also strengthen your ability to be compassionate with yourself and others.

My hope is that you will feel comfortable enough to dive deep with me and brave enough to try something new.

If you think we might work well together, please fill out the contact form and I will reach out to schedule a consultation!

My guiding principles

Compassion

One of my major goals as a therapist is helping you respond to yourself with kindness rather than criticism—just like you would a good friend.

Insight

As we work together, you will gain self-awareness and an understanding of how your struggles make sense in the context of your life experiences.

Non-judgment

I will approach you with openness and gentle curiosity as you learn how to befriend yourself. I’m not here to tell you what to do or shame you for not having it all together.

Taking Action

Ultimately, my hope is that you will feel empowered and be willing to try showing up in your life in different ways. This is how we will know you have grown!
